The New Brunswick Youth In Care Network (NBYICN) is made up of a collection of youth and young adults from all over New Brunswick whose goal is to unite people who understand what it's like to be in care. We strive to provide a sense of belonging and to empower youth in care throughout the province.

To accomplish this goal, we rely on three essential pillars: Community, Leadership and Representation.

Community

By getting together and working towards group objectives, the NBYICN seeks to develop a sense of community among its members. Our goal is to provide a variety of projects -- from visual arts to outdoor adventure activities to social advocacy and beyond -- so that all our members feel they have something to get excited about. We're always working on new projects, and we're always willing to hear your ideas on what type of stuff we should try to organize for youth in care.

Leadership

We operate with the belief that today's youth can be today's leaders. With this in mind, our network is based primarily around the efforts of what we call our Leadership Group. Network leaders are members who have chosen to go beyond simple participation in our events and have become leaders in their own right -- whether by coordinating workshops or by speaking out as representatives and advocates for youth in care.

Representation

Finally, the NBYICN seeks to provide youth in care with a voice. We believe that youth have a lot to say, and that New Brunswick could benefit greatly from listening. It is with this understanding in mind that we strive to develop avenues by which youth can express themselves and let themselves be heard. We do this through the development of advocacy projects, through the work of our leaders, and by acting as representatives at conferences and in groups that make a difference.
